Blueberry Muffin for you and your dog

While being home during social distancing, I've been doing a lot of cooking for my family so I wanted to make healthy treats for my dogs as well. I thought about something we can share together and enjoy. We all know blueberries are good for our fur babies as well as kabocha (squash) so I decided to make blueberry muffin for us. After I finished making the muffins, my son wanted to try and ate most of it! Hope you enjoy it as much as your dog.

  • Ingredients and prep.

These are easy to find ingredients, you can find the kabocha in any market. I used haft of the kabocha, 2 eggs and blueberries (you can add more or less)

     

Microwave the kabocha for 2-5 minutes, depending on it's size. This is to make the kabocha easier to cut.

       

Take the kabocha and let it cool before cutting. Once it's cooled, cut and remove the seeds with a spoon.

    

Wet a paper towel and cover the kabocha. We will microwave the kabocha again for 5 minutes or until the inside is soft. 

While the kabocha is cooking, separate the yolk and the white.

Remove the kabocha and let it cool, once it's cooled down we will scrape the inside with a spoon. Put it to the side in a bowl.

We will make meringue, beat the egg white with a beater until it's stiff.

Now we will add the yolk to the kabocha puree and mix until it's combined.

Add the mixture to the meringue and mix well until combined and add the blueberries.

Baking the muffin.

There are 2 ways for making the muffins.

You can add it to a small microwave safe container and microwave it for 2 minutes. Please make sure to cover with a wrap and poke holes. Once it's done let it cool.

You can also use conventional oven by pre-heating the oven at 370 degrees. Line a muffin pan with muffin paper cups. Add the mixture and bake for about 15 minutes.

Personally, I liked the muffins that were baked in the oven because they were softer. Enjoy!

Healthy treat for your pup. Gimbab (Korean sushi roll)

We are all facing a hard time with the Covid-19 and are required to stay home to stop the spread of the virus. I'm sure our dogs don't mind spending that much time with us. I wanted to share a fun and healthy recipe on how to make gimbab (korean seaweed rice roll, aka sushi roll) with ingredients that most of us have at home and are healthy for our dogs. It's easy even for people that don't cook. Your dog will love it!

  • Preparation

These are the ingredients I used, you can replace the meat and veggies with what you want and have. I used chicken to mimic the rice and my dogs love chicken and the ground black sesame seed (any asian markets should have it) to mimic the seaweed. Good news, it is ok for dogs to have sesame seeds as they aren’t toxic or particularly harmful to their health. In fact, sesame seeds, like most seeds, are a vitamin powerhouse with a protein punch. If you don't have it, don't sweat, just skip the seeds.

INGREDIENTS 

Flatten the ground chicken (or any meat) on a wax paper.

Add your veggies.

Roll the ground chicken.

If you are using ground black sesame seed, roll over it or sprinkle your chicken roll with it.

  • Cooking

Wrap the chicken roll with wax paper and place it inside a steamer. If you don't have a steamer basket, you can use what you have. All you need is a metal colander and a big pot, and you've got everything you need to make a steamer at home. Fill a pot with approximately half an inch of water. Place a metal colander or a strainer inside, leaving enough room so that the boiling water won't touch the strainer. Cover the pot as much as possible in order to prevent steam from escaping.

Steam it until the meat is cooked, around 15 minutes on medium heat and remove. I pat dry the roll with paper towel to remove excess water. Cut your roll and serve when it cools down.

Beef Love Crock Pot Home Made Dog Food

Both my dogs are very fussy eaters. They have been on a freeze dry diet mixed with kibbles, as these were the only thing they would eat. Sometimes they will go a day of two without eating at all. So I decided to cook for them. At first I was worried they won't eat it either. I tried different recipes but this one stuck with them. S'mores always had soft stools, but after she started this food, her stool became more firm! We were so excited! And they love this recipe. You can replace any ingredients with what your dog loves. Just make sure you add supplements so they are not deprived of it. Talk to your vet about what supplements your dog needs and add accordingly.

Ingredients 

  • 2 and a half pound of ground beef or any other protein.
  • 1 and a half cup of brown rice
  • 1 15 ounce can of already drained and rinsed kidney beans
  • 1 and a half cup of chopped butternut squash
  • 1 and a half cup of chopped carrots
  • Half a cup of frozen or canned peas

Preparations

  • Stir the ground beef, brown rice, butternut squash into the slow cooker. 
  • Add carrots, the peas and 4 cups of water into as well.
  • Mix everything inside and cover the crock pot and cook at low heat for about 6 hours.
  • Make sure to stir in between.

Once you let it cool off, serve and put the rest in the freezer for later use. This amount lasts me about 2 weeks for 2 dogs. Hope your dog loves this home made food.
